Is it necessary to paint all four walls the same color? Would it look tacky with one contrasting color?

I chose a slate blue from a pillow that combines, chocolate brown, gold, cream and two shades of blue. I've already painted two walls the blue, but thought about painting the smallest wall a cream color. Yea? Nay?Is it necessary to paint all four walls the same color? Would it look tacky with one contrasting color?
Yea go for it. I have seen that done well many many times over. It shows that you took some time to think and that you are brave to try it. Plus it is in the pillows so that ties everything togather. Just be sure to keep those same colors going through out or it could end up looking tacky. Is it necessary to paint all four walls the same color? Would it look tacky with one contrasting color?
I live in a trailer, so when I moved in, I wanted something to give the illusion of greater space. All the walls were blah-panneling, so I repainted... A LOT!! The walls in my living room are each a little different.

The wall that goes down the hall- I painted white, and then (what was I thinking??!?) taped the little black lines in the panneling and painted the lines a sage green- when I finally got it done, it looked really cute!

Anther wall- I left the panneling alone- it was interesting...

The wall opposite the white-w-green stripe is the same sage green- but solid.

The wall that you see as you come in the front door is the same sage green, with white sponging- matches a color on a picture I've hung on that wall.

Cooler colors create the apperance of greater size- a small room painted blue or green will feel bigger, etc. So if the cream leans a little to the warm side of the spectrum, it should look pretty.
That is all the rage now using an accent wall a different color
No; it wouldn't look tacky! Be creative %26amp; have fun. It's your home.

Yea, all the way.
If you read any of my other answers in Home'; You'll see my thoughts but I suggest that painting a 4th wall a different color isn't a new concept. I've been doing it for 30 plus years, especially in homes I've owned.

I'll say Yes.

It is a good idea to take your colour scheme from a piece of fabric you like, as all the combining and contrasting has already been worked out for you. It is quite boring to paint all four walls the same, so be clever and do as you are planning.
sure go for it, its good to have 1 wall differnt.
If you want to check first, then you do that. If it looks good together you go for it. If not go to wherever you got the paint strips from and choose a good looking color that mathces. Good luck!!
Just make sure that you check the paint with color strip at different times of the day. The light can make paint change colors. The side with the light source may need to be the darkest. The dark colors will also make the room seem smaller.
Go for it! The different color wall makes other things in the room pop if it is done right. What I would suggest is to use a darker color for the contrasting wall.
In my living room, I have 3 walls that are a chocolate color and one that is a light beige/cream color and it looks great. Whatever you want to do is fine as long as it pleases you. It's your house, do what you want. The color scheme you are looking at should look wonderful.
Old decorating trick in small apartments was painting one wall a slightly darker tint of same color; it made the room seem larger.

If you have visual arts sense, you can do contrast stuff and consider other goodies in the room; furniture, throws, wall art, etc.

Consider also a slightly brighter or darker tint on the ceiling.
As everyone says; go for it! I'll add one thought to help out in case the cream isn't what you exactly wanted...

just consider the cream shade a primer for the next color if it isn't the right look for you.

Some of the paint web sites like Sherwin-Williams used to have an interactive paint color/design too that you could click on %26amp; paint your imaginary room different colors to see how they look %26amp; gave idea for that contrast color you're looking for if you at a loss for ideas.
