we have a large basement the walls are brick.
any ideas for a cool easy paint job. want ti to be a hanguot/playroom for our kids ages 11 , 7, and 7Need ideas of how to paint brick basement walls?
We used a good primer (one that says it works for brick or masonry) under the paint, then just regular latex wall paint over the primer.
Lego Theme - The room we did was going to be my son's, and I wanted something fun to do with it, so I actually used two colors and alternated them in large areas to resemble Lego building blocks. It was great fun, and he loved that it wasn't just one color painted everywhere.
Another option would be to use the lines of the brick to make a mural - ground, square house with windows, cars in the yard, think of geometric items you could paint into the mural using the lines.
Paint it all one color, then let the kids pick some other colors and just go through randomly painting bricks -make sure they know ahead that they can't paint over their brother or sister's bricks.
Hope those get your creative juices flowing!
Have fun.Need ideas of how to paint brick basement walls?
You will want to begin by cleaning the bricks with an etching cleaner to remove contaminates and leaching lime. Muratic acid is widely used in this application, however, it is based on sulfuric acid which is dangerous to you and the environment. Top Secret Coatings has an excellent etching cleaner, TS 695 Etching Cleaner (as seen the supplies page of the company website). It is actually fertilizer in the flowerbeds. It accomplishes the same thing as muratic acid without the danger. Once thoroughly dry you are ready to prime. If you are looking for a waterproof primer that works as a waterproof barrier coat I suggest Top Secret's TS 6390/92 ever-Last Epoxy Primer. It is a polyamide two component epoxy primer that can be brushed, rolled or sprayed. Adhesion, durability and value are excellent. This is the same stuff the Army, navy and Coast Guard uses so it's the good stuff. Another option would be their TS-307 Oil Based Primer. It is easier to use because it is a single component product but it hasn't the pedigree of the Ever-Last Primer. I suggest staying away from water-based primer because water is not a vehicle into masonry, solvents are so adhesion is far better. I hope this info helps. Good luck with the project.
Buy some masonary paint, I have just re-painted some exterior walls with it, as I painted some others a few years ago. All are still doing well. the paint has not peeled off, as normal paint would, and it will not rub off onto clothes etc. You can purchase it at most D-I-Y stores, and it comes in many colours. I got mine from B %26amp; Q, it cost me just over 拢10, and I have made old red bricks look like new stones.
i do believe you can paint over brick with any paint. When you go to buy it the clerk should be able to suggest what will work best. I would suggest something non-toxic for the kids, also something light in color since it's in the basement. Sounds like a fun project, good luck
varnish it
I would paint it with a good primer to
fill in most of the holes, then let the kids
pick out the color paint that they want.
First of all, use a paint for brick and make sure it resists moisture. If you have a basement, most likely you live where it gets very cold in the winter. Paint your walls white. Have your kids, along with your supervision, make a beach scene with waves, sand, unbrellas.etc. Have them stencil or sponge paint sea shells, starfish, beach balls, sand toys and other beachy things. Let them write their names to make it look like they have written them in the sand. This will give it a warm and fun feel during those cold months. Just have fun with it.
