How Doy I know what paint is on my Walls?

I am ready to repaint my kitchen. The walls are pretty highly textured (which I like.) I have read that frequently textured walls have an oil based paint, and you should not paint with latex over that. I am not sure how to know what type of paint is currently on the walls. Any tips are appreciatedHow Doy I know what paint is on my Walls?
Put 1 coat of Super Leytex matt emulsion on, then two coats of Soft Sheen emulsion. Go to Leyland for the paint.

Only a retard would paint kitchen walls with a gloss paint. Sane people would use Soft Sheen or Silk.

I thought Latex was a rubber that some gloves are made out of !!How Doy I know what paint is on my Walls?
Don't waste extra money trying to put up extra coats.

Take a cottonball with rubbing alcohol and rub it on the paint. If paints comes off it's Latex. step-by-step on following link

If you aren't sure, its a good idea to put 1-2 coats of primer on first.

Textured walls are usually latex or water based and I think flat looks best. I wouldn't use oil base or a semi gloss on texture it would look wierd.
Kitchens are normally painted in a semi-gloss or enamel finish, so you would have either one.
