Cheaper brands of paints are more opaque in their coverage and will require more coats. How much per sq. ft. to paint new dry-wall?
If there is a rule of thumb, I don't know it. I'm not sure how detailed I should get, because I don't want to insult your intelligence and offend you. But I will just start at the beginning anyway.
Measure your walls and ceiling and get a square foot amount. (length of wall X height of wall = sq.ft. do this for all four walls and ceiling--measure through windows and doorways--add all five numbers together for total sq.ft.)
Figure you will use a drywall primer and two coats of paint. The directions on the can will tell you approximately how many square feet that particular paint will cover. Do the math by dividing the total number of sq.ft. on the can into the sq.ft. of the room. You will come out with how many gallons you will need, then just add up the price of the gallons. How much per sq. ft. to paint new dry-wall?
Whatever the cost, make sure to prime first. don't skip this part for new drywall.
Otherwise, you will use a ton of paint and work yourself to death.
