Why can't you paint your kitchen walls green?

I just recently purchased a home and the kitchen was all wood - wood paneling and cabinets. I have painted the cabinets white and wanted to paint the walls green. The color I have chosen was a sage green - not a really green green color. Everybody tells me that you are not supposed to paint your kitchen green. What do you think? If so, any suggestions on colors. My countertop is a creme, cabinets white, floor is brick and accessories is sunflowers. I am open to almost anything and I am ready to end this ongoing project. Why can't you paint your kitchen walls green?
I think if it makes you happy, who cares what everyone else thinks?

Creme countertops, white cabinets, brick all go with sage green. I don't see anything that clashes.

Designers ALL have opinions, and everyone is a bit different. They may have experience, and that can be useful, but at the end of the day, you're the one looking at it. Paint it green. If you don't like it you can always change it.Why can't you paint your kitchen walls green?
I think the reason they are telling you this is because green causes your brain to somehow think of moldy penicillin and therefor is not very appetizing. So if it is in the kitchen where you cook food I guess that could make you not want to eat. I also heard that if you eat on green or blue dishes you will eat less.

Personally, I love sage or olive greens and have seen several beautiful kitchens done in green. It's your kitchen so do what makes you happy. But if you notice a decrease in appetite that might be the reason why.
My kitchen is sage green, in fact, my whole house is, and simply bursting at the seams with tropical plants. It is like walking into jungle forest even in the middle of winter, and it is indescribably peaceful.

Also, ANY color fits right in with green, so you can change your effects just like that. Imagine brilliant orange, dark forest green, pale rose, cream...

It is YOUR kitchen...and YOUR life. Live it.
I don't know why you can't paint your kitchen green...

but I've also never really seen a green kitchen before. I say go for it!

If you want more colors:

a subtle yellow works well

light blues

creme might be good too... although that would make your kitchen look too white... I'd go with a ';banana'; yellow-y color.

But hey, be original. If you like green, paint it green! I think it'd be cool w/ sunflowers!
I have never heard that and my entire house is sage green. I have a thing for palm trees so my house looks like one. I have stained concrete floors that are a deep brown and my walls and curtains are sage green, even in the kitchen. I get compliments all the time and even had a friend ask if I would help her paint and decorate. It is all opinion.
Who cares what other people think! I like different colors.....every room in my house is different. What I did in my kitchen....I left it white, but my pantry door is dark red and my shades on my window match...and have accessories to match through out the kitchen, I have green vines above my window, with dark red grapes hanging from it....do what you think is cute...you live in it, and have to see it everyday
i think green would go really well and anyway why do you care what anyone else thinks and at the end of the day it's your kitchen and therefore your choice.

also i have never heard that your not allowed to paint your kitchen green i didn't realise we lived in a big brother state i was under the impression it was a free country.

but in my opinon it sounds like green will tone very well it's a neutral colour therefore tones with a lot of things
Oh that sounds really lovely, modern but with a rustic, country feel, i can picture it. Why shouldn't you paint a kitchen green? if it is a large kitchen that you could fit a farmhouse tabe and chairs in i would imagine it being a very tranquile room, ideal for starting the day at breakfast. Go for it, it's your kitchen at the end of the day.
you can paint it green if you want, i would guess it has something to do with food colors, i have been told if you are on a diet put a blue bulb in the fridge, because not a lot of food is blue it would make it less desirable to eat, maybe green walls is the same concept:?
Hummm, i think a nice beige would look great. what you are describing to me sounds like my kitchen. But maybe since your accesorie is sunflowers you can go with a pale yellow.

Im not sure but colour phsycology said that shades from orange to yellow is ideal for a kitchen because the colours are said to bring laughter and such to the room.

Good luck on your kitchen. I hope i helped
I've read decorating books that talk about appropriate colors for various rooms, and it seems to be based on which colors are ';energizing'; or stimulate your appetite and so on, but I really think it is individual. The colors in my house are definitely not what is recommended, but I chose colors that I like and I'm very happy with them!
I have no idea why people would tell you not to paint your kitchen green.

Green is actually a very nice color for a kitchen, and with the colors and finishes you described, I think it would be beautiful.
i would do it... my kitchen is egg plant purple... loves it!!!

i think the green thing has something to do with the subliminal part of the brain that does not relate to food... the mac, bk, all the fast food restaraunts have yellow and red which triggers the brain for food and calmness...

but.... a kitchen is a kitchen... and u know thats where u eat...so go for it!!!
i think the green would be pretty. i dont know why they say you cant do ur kitchen green... i guess green can often be thought of as a bathroom color but do what u think looks best because it will be ur house and u will be looking at the color everyday.
i have no idea y you can't paint it green. it sounds like a good color, and makes a kitchen look more naturely and peaceful. but u can try paintin the walls yellow to match the sunflowers, or orange, beige or peach =]
who ever told you that you can't paint your kitchen green is crazy i think it sounds like a pretty color and would look nice so go ahead and paint your kitchen the color that you want to paint it.
It's your kitchen, so use green if you want to!

Not many people think of green as a 'kitchen' color- but my kitchen also has green in it, and it's really a nice part of the decor.
if it looks good and its what you like what does it matter what others think go for it. If you dont like it after you can always change it to something else. LIVE.
my mom has white cabinets, linoleum floor, and she painted her's a light green and it's gorgeous. I don't know who said not to paint your kitchen green. Do it.
You can't? Migod! I never knew of the lean green machine that goes behind you to strip the paint away!

Paint what you like- forget the critics. They don't live there.
i did and it looked good. so go for it. and that color it a great color for a kitchen
in all honestly, i don't think there is really any ';rule'; to what colour to paint any room, just do what you think looks best.
I have never heard you're not supposed to paint your kitchen green - my current one IS green, with Silestone dark green countertops. I've had no trouble in my green kitchen.
That is ridiculous there are many pictures of kitchens with green walls on the internet.
i guess people are saying that to you because they assume you're going to sell your house? if you're not going to sell, do anything that you like!!!!!!
you can paint it whatever color you want.

even green
y the hell CANT u paint it green?hus everybody?thats retarded.paint it green,have a JOLLY GOOD TIME
omg. just go to this site vvv

it'll help
Paint it what you want, it is your house. If not I would say a light terracotta color.
The color green represents ';throw-up';. So, if you're cooking and see the color green all the time, it can't be good. Psychologically speaking I mean.
Because green is the colour of really bad diarrhea. Not very appetizing, hm?
