No you do not have to wash to prime with this paint if you choose to wash walls it has to be certain kinds of wall paint are damage may occur.

The better primer over nicotine the better for stoping fulture re-paints.

Nicotine is the worst of any sapping stain if it was something else i would say yes to Kitz see warrantys on both. 10x10 room 8ft walls one gallon.

Kitz = $9.99 a gallon

Undercoater = $27.00 a gallonCan interior wall surfaces with heavy duty nicotine film be painted without washing to prevent bleedthru?
You might run into a lot of peeling paint, depending on how heavy the nicotine is. You are better off washing them with TSP, then painting. It's about the same amount of work as

doing two coats of paint.
No! done it always come on top
You don't need to spend a lot of money on Kilz. It takes some elbow grease and patience.

* First, wash the wall with 1 Tablespoon of Dawn in 3 gallons of hot water and a 1/4 cup up bleach.

* Only wash 4-5 square feet at a time.

* Then rinse the area with 3 gallons of cool water with 1 and 1/2 cups of WHITE vinegar.

Yes, you will have to change the buckets at least 3 times in a small room (12 X 12 say), and in a larger room, three buckets of each per wall.

Test an area that has the worst nicotine stain first. You will be amazed. Let the room air out and dry completely.

Use a good quality paint (thin paint will not cover well). If the walls have color, choose a good cheap flat white paint before you apply the color you want.
I agree with bubblz kilz is the best out on the market.
