right now the walls are white but i wanted to try something diff more of a modern lookI have a light hunter green rug and wanted to paint the walls but i dont know what color to use?
beige, or a creamy color would match well with green, a burgundy or red as well but dark colors tend to make a room ';look'; smaller and you don't want your room looking like Christmas year round. A light tan or beige and do trim in a burgundy mauve color would be niceI have a light hunter green rug and wanted to paint the walls but i dont know what color to use?
I have always Loved the color of Burgandy with Hunter Green and the trim a Gloss white. Be sure and use Latex Paint for easy clean up.
Oranges.
Alot of people are using Sage. We have this color in our house and just love it. Go get some swatches from a paint store or Home Depot. Bring them home and compare to the rug to see how they look together. Sage comes in many gradients from a very light sage to a very dark sage.
a brown khaki.
green
First I would ask myself more questions about the desired outcome than just that a modern look is desired. Do you want the room to look warmer or cooler? Lighter or darker? Do you want the room to look larger or more cozy? For a modern look I would suggest that it should look open and larger and that means mostly pale colors. One wall could be darker if it was the wall or walls with windows, with opposite walls which reflect the light being a lighter shade. Are you seeking nature colors? I would then consider shades of green. Children's colors? I would consider purple or SpongeBob yellow. I would use darker colors for a TV or media room, lighter ones for an activity room. It is hard to find a color better than white, but I have been pleased with off white that looks white but has a touch of pink or coral in it. The most impressive modern walls that I have seen in resorts were textured and shiny smooth. But when I tried to duplicate this at home, I could not find stores that sell that kind of texture. But you can look at the textures that paint stores near you can offer.
Find the exact color of your rug by matching to those paint swatches in the paint dept - it always has the complementing colors.
light brown
I would go with Herbal scent you can find this color at home depot in BEHR

Premium plus paint or if you would like a little lighter shade you can go with the DriedChervil also by BEHR.
go to lowe's.com. They have a virtual painter you can use to try hundreds of colors. It's free. They also have alot of sample rooms you can look at for ideas. hgtv.com is another good site for ideas.
