I've just signed for a year lease, and I went ahead and painted some walls into colors I like, and I think I'll paint them back to white when I move out.
will landlord be mad if she knew? will I be evicted? it's an apartment bldg converted from an old house. she'll possibly know if repairman report me.
thanks. Will landlord be mad if I painted my walls?
as long as she is aware that you are going to return them to their original state prior to your moving out, it shouldn't be a big dealWill landlord be mad if I painted my walls?
I bought my first apartment building in 1967, when I returned from Vietnam. Over the years I owned as many as 300 units at one time. Less than 10% of tenants that paint the apartments a different color actually return it to it's earlier color upon moving, regardless of their original intentions (not many people actually change the apartments color).
I would have had no problem with you painting the unit if you did two things prior to the paint job. First notify me in advance, and secondly provide additional security deposit for me to repaint if you fail to.
If you didn't do those two things I would have been ';irritated'; to say the least.
I don't think she will be mad. Usually apts have white walls so tenants can choose what colors they would like. I am sure you will be expected to change them back to white when you leave in order to receive your deposit back. You should have asked her first and I would go ahead and let her know that you did paint and will be more than willing to change them back when you leave.
We're working on the same exact thing...
I would say by how our landlord is...that first you should ask her...
She'd probably say as long as it wasn't a standing out color, she would be alright with it.
What is stated in the lease concerning painting? If there is nothing, then you should have asked the landlord before painting.
